Mapumba

Mapumba plays Afro pop influenced by his roots from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Singing in Swahili, Chiluba, French and English, Mapumba fuses folk music with modern Congo Rhumba and many other styles.
0n his debut album, the song Mimi expresses his gratitude for a chance at a life in music - a life that begun in a humble mining town of Kolwezi in southern Congo and has taken him across countries and continents. This debut album features other beautiful songs like Mwendo, Wewe, Baby Please and the public’s favorite, Mwafwako.
Mwafwako literally tells of the life changing event which was a deadly tribal conflict that forced Mapumba’s family to move to the central province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kasai, a land that is the origin of his family’s tribe. It’s a story of betrayal, political deception and survival.
The 2nd album is packed with lively, love and fun songs like; Bongodongo, C’est toi and Africa Njo Mama. Not to mention some beautiful ballads like the spiritual title Angel (video on youtube), Rudiya (a translation of Sting’s song Fragile) and Eh Dadah.
On a more serious note on this album, the words of the songs Watoto Ya Africa and Mon Souhait reflect the wish for more understanding and compassion amongst our cultures and races. But everything begins at home. So a stand against women’s abuse is taken in fans’ favorite ballade, Muke Wako, followed by Mungu Wangu, a cry for the never ending crisis of street children in Africa’s major cities.
Mapumba also carries a reputation of being a magnetic and passionate performer. He is readily available to a group of a few people in a room listening to him on vocals and guitar, to a crowd of thousands bouncing to him and his groovy band. It is a rarely disappointing experience.
It is a great time to be a singer, a producer and a performer with a lot to say and many ways to say it. So, put a child to sleep with Mimi and Watoto ya Africa, get a party going with Mwafwako and Mon Souhait or have a dance with Bongodongo and C’est toi. Even better, catch him live and watch him perform unreleased songs like Eyiweh and Kolwezi. Just by the voice, you will know it’s Mapumba.
